Translate in Google Chat

Translate in Google Chat

Translation can sometimes come really handy. There are many translation web services available. However, it becomes very annoying if you have to open websites and then translate.

Now you have a Jabber chat bot, that can translate for you. It works really cool. Just add this bot in your GTalk list, and it can do the translation for you. So, if you are chatting from your GTalk and you want to translate, then you don’t have to open your browser. Simply ask the bot. It’ll translate for you.

How does this work? Add the eng.hin.dict@jabber.org in your Google talk. Then simply open the chat window and type any word. The bot will translate and reply you.

You can also use eng.mal.dict@jabber.org for translation from English to Malayalam

It does not have a name yet. I’d like to call it: JTransBot (Jabber Translate Bot)

However, JTransBot has some limitations… Currently JTransBot can only translate from English to Hindi and Malayalam. Also, it can only translate words. JTransBot can’t translate sentences. This is more like a English – Hindi / Malayalam dictionary. Still it’s pretty good. It does very accurate translations.

Developer Info: JTransBot has been developed by 2 Software Engineers from Kerala (India): Rajeesh K Nambiar and Santhosh Thottingal.

I really liked it. I would request them to please provide translations for other languages also. It can also be extended to translate sentences. Then it would be really nice.

Great work guys. Keep it up.
